If you work in the world of packaging, sooner or later you will come across the abbreviation FEFCO. It stands for the European federation of corrugated board manufacturers (European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers), which has been standardising the way cardboard packaging is designed and labelled for decades.
FEFCO codes – the universal language of cardboard packaging
The best-known output of this organisation is the catalogue of FEFCO kódov – a system of four-digit numbers designating the individual construction types of cardboard boxes and packaging. Each code defines precisely:
- the shape and the way the board is folded,
- the position of flaps, creases and cuts,
- how the packaging is closed and joined.
This lets us communicate precisely with clients, suppliers and partners across Europe – code 0201 means the same thing in Bratislava, Berlin and Milan.
